Technology Skills for those in Childcare

Unsure what the Internet can do for you?? How do you search to find art/craft/theme inspiration? How do you make the most of the computer you have in a childcare setting? This session gives an overview of those technologies and dispels all the mysteries surrounding them. Far from being rocket science, technology is hugely useful if you are working with children! The workshop allows for some hands on time and includes the below areas.

    ·         Understanding the Terminology from  FTP to URL’s

    ·         Web surfing and searching and the best childcare related websites

    ·         MS Word – what can it do for you?

    ·         Create a webpage?? Yes you can!

    ·         Promote your services on the Internet

This workshop can also be customised to include basic computer usage and file management skills. Note: the class is suitable for adults only.

      Additional Course Notes for Workshop

    Nurturing Nursery Rhymes!
Early learning of nursery rhymes and rhythmic poems and songs significantly enhances early reading skills and phonemic awareness. But that’s only the beginning. This workshop will examine how nursery rhymes can also contribute to maths, science and visual arts standards.

So pull out your copy of Mother Goose and enjoy a hands on session that incorporates rhymes and complementary physical and art activities that will allow your children to grow and learn in multiple ways.

     Creative Drama and Play

Play is a powerful way for children to experience the world. The Creative Drama and Play workshop will examine drama games which link these two means of expression - drama and play. The interactive activities will help build strong bodies, expand the mind, and spark creativity.

Children and their caregivers can enjoy a chance to explore their dramatic sides as this workshop gives exuberant and clever play ideas that everyone can get involved with.  Some examples are The Story of Smells, Night Game, Happy Ending and other educational but most importantly fun activities!

Simple Science and Maths for Preschoolers

Attitudes about math and science start early. This seminar aims to make the sciences interesting, hands on and fun for the 3-6 age group. We’ll focus on some key early childhood topics – Nature, Colours and the Human Body amongst others and demonstrate how to instill a thirst for learning in the little ones. Learn how to make a volcano, play maths games, and examine concepts like surface tension and density.

You’ll be showing your child/children that we learn about science through play and exploration, and that mathematical thinking is part of everyday life. Strong preschool math skills foreshadow long-term success in school so be sure to make that difference by engaging in simple science with your young children.

Arts, Crafts and Activities for Spring

for the early part of the year, incorporating Valentines Day, St. Patricks Day and Easter. Songs, finger plays,  games and relevant sensory experiences are also included. Bring springtime alive for your children with this energetic hands on workshop.

    Many Kinds of Smart
This seminar deals with understanding the Theory of Multiple Intelligences.  Preschool
teachers and childminders can learn to celebrate and support all the ways we can be smart - not just the ones traditionally valued by society. Children learn in a number of different ways and in this workshop attendees will discover the nine kinds of smart  - spatial, interpersonal, naturalist, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, linguistic, and intrapersonal - whilst learning many activities to support these multiple intelligences and learning styles with their children.
